Blueprint reading does require practice and some basic knowledge of blueprints. [Online Course] This course is about violence in America, about aggression in our schools, classrooms, streets, homes and elsewhere. The course speaks of the hatred, the fights, the anger, the crimes committed and the victims in our schools and society. This course covers the history of aggression in America and the many forms of aggression, both criminal and otherwise; its costs and motivation; its perpetrators and targets, its likely and unlikely locations; its impact on our schools, the children; and most especially its promising solutions. Topics of interest include violence and the challenge of raising and working with children; aggression in our classrooms; American youth gangs and their influence; past and future sports violence; "hot spot" locations of frequent violence; and the aggression-promoting role of alcohol, temperature, driving, television and other features of modern life. This course is graded on a credit/no credit basis. An Internship bridges the gap between the classroom and the legal work world. Students are placed in a legal setting of their choice for two days per week for 15 weeks (120 hours.) Under special circumstances one day of week may be considered. Placements are available with large and small law firms, corporations, and legal service and government agencies. Students are also required to attend monthly Saturday morning seminars on ethics, interpersonal communications in the law office, résumé writing, office politics, time management, and stress prevention. Students without legal experience are strongly encouraged to take this course, which may be taken twice for a total of six units. Individual counseling for students interested in doing an internship is available. Please contact the instructor. To begin the process, an Internship Application must be completed and returned to the instructor or paralegal program staff.
