ABA Workshop: Preparing Estate Tax Returns, Part II

This session will continue the review and discussion of Form 706. In this program, the speakers will discuss QTIP elections and how to complete Schedules J through O of Form 706, as well as several important generation-skipping transfer ("GST") tax elections, and how to address payments for illiquid estates.

This program will provide an introduction to several key concepts related to the preparation and filing of estate tax returns. Panelists will discuss how to determine if you need to file an estate tax return, whether a Form 8971 needs to be filed as well, how to value the estate for purposes of the return, how to complete Schedules A through I of Form 706, portability, and more.

ABA Workshop: Income Tax Returns in Estate Administration, Part II

This program will continue the discussion of the timing, preparation, and filing of income tax returns in an administration. Panelists will cover topics such as how to determine where to take deductions (estate tax return vs. income tax return) and income in respect of a decedent (IRD).

This program will introduce attendees to several important issues regarding the timing, preparation, and filing of income tax returns for decedent and an estate. Panelists will discuss the coordination of income tax returns with the administration process, the information needed for the returns, and the 65-day rule.

The program will review the use and importance of keeping a fiduciary accounting, as well as the uses of release agreements in the administration of estates. Speakers will discuss best practices and provide practical insight on both accountings and release agreements.

ABA Workshop: Payments and Distributions in Closing Out the Estate

In this program, the speakers will discuss several important issues related to distributing property from and closing out an estate. They will discuss when it is appropriate to make distributions and re-title assets, the implications of claims made by creditors, funding trusts and understanding funding formulas, and more.

Vivian Shreve has been a legal secretary/assistant for more than 40 years. Vivian has been an Executive Assistant at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California since 2008. Vivian is the current President of SCCoLPA, where she has been a member since 2013, and she is the current CCLS Chair for Legal Professionals Inc. She is passionate about the legal field and about SCCoLPA and is looking forward to her term as President. 

In her spare time, Vivian enjoys cooking for her family, spending as much time as possible with her three grandsons, working with her 5-year old German shepherd and playing softball.

Welcome to the Paralegal Studies program at San Francisco State University! It is with great pleasure and excitement that I stand before you today as the Director of this esteemed program. You have made an excellent choice by joining us, and I assure you that your journey here will be one filled with opportunities, growth and success.

First and foremost, I want to emphasize the caliber and reputation of our program. San Francisco State University's Paralegal Studies program is approved by the American Bar Association, making it highly respected nationwide. Your certificate and education from this program will hold significant weight, allowing you to work as a paralegal anywhere in the United States. We take immense pride in our program, which has been a beacon of excellence since its establishment in 1975.

By becoming a part of our program, you are not just joining a university but also the vibrant San Francisco State University Gator community. Our alumni network, established in 1899, spans across various industries, providing you with an extensive support system and invaluable connections. This network will serve as a valuable resource as you embark on your paralegal journey.
